CARPET CLEANING NORTH SYDNEY

Blog – What lies beneath the carpet?

Carpet is an excellent floor covering for your home it provides aesthetics, comfort underneath the foot, acoustic qualities, improved energy efficiency, and improved safety from slipping

Carpet acts as a filter with debris and soil getting captured and drawn down between the carpet pile reducing the amount of air borne dust and debris.

Without regular carpet maintenance, the build-up of the following is imminent; dust, mites, pollen, faeces, skin, soil and debris can become a health risk. Studies have found that carpet harbours high levels of bacteria and germs.

Strangely homeowners are more concerned about the aesthetics of the carpet when deciding to have their carpets deep cleaned. The process of carpet steam cleaning sanitises the floor covering and reduces the risk of illness and making a healthier household.

Studies have concluded that vacuuming alone can never remove the dirt deep within the carpet fibres. Green Steam Carpet Clean offers deep carpet cleaning via method known as carpet steam cleaning or hot water extraction. It also recommended that the customer opts to have the carpet scrubbed with mechanical agitation. Carpet scrubbing physically breaks the bond between the carpet fibre soiling while flicking dirt and hair to the upper surface to be removed by carpet steam cleaning process.

To create and preserve health living environment Green Steam Carpet Clean and the IICRC international standard for carpet cleaning recommends deep cleaning once a year. In between the annual steam cleaning it is recommended to have maintenance clean known as dry cleaning, very low moisture cleaning (VLM) or encapsulation cleaning.

Green Steam Carpet Clean offers VLM cleaning to both residential and commercial customers. Dry cleaning works by applying a cleaning solution to the carpet that is brushed and scrubbed into the carpet. The cleaning solution surrounds the soil particle and crystalises causing the particle to release from the carpet fibre and vacuumed up by regular vacuum once completely dry.

Home Carpet Care advice to extend the life of your carpet

  • Green Steam Carpet Clean and carpet manufacturers recommend vacuuming frequently to maintain a healthy dust free environment. Regular vacuuming improves the appearance of the carpet.
  • Focus more attention when vacuuming to high traffic/heavily soiled areas with 5-7 passes. Lightly soiled carpet requires at least 3 passes.
  • To unsettle dust, grime and debris vacuum against the pile direction first and finishing vacuuming in the direction of the pile to complete a uniform finish.
  • Use door mats at entries and staircases
  • Remove dirty shoes on entry
  • Use colourfast rugs over high traffic areas
  • Underneath furniture use coasters to protect from stains such tannin and rust marks. Coasters also assist in alleviating pressure marks

Which vacuum do I recommend?

  • Investment in a reputable vacuum manufacturer
  • While battery operated stick vacuums are handy, they don’t offer the best suction to collect soiling deep within the carpet fibre.
  • Vacuums fitted with micro filter systems ensure fine particles are collected and stay in the vacuums bag or waste areas and not blown out the vacuums exhaust system. Micro filter systems are ideal for dust mite allergen collection.
  • Beater bars or brushes are great at dislodging soil deep from within the carpet fibre. Please take care to ensure the beater bars are at the correct height to prevent carpet damage. For thicker carpets raise the beater bar for thinner carpets lower the beater bar. Any machines today offer automatic adjustment.
  • Suction power of vacuums are significantly reduced when vacuum bags or collection areas are half full. Check with your manufacturer of how often filters needs to be cleaned or replaced.

Urine treatment

Urine on carpet has two major issues permanent colour loss and unbearable smells

When an animal urinates on the carpet it goes down as an acid, over the next few days it converts to an alkaline or high Ph chemical that can cause permanent colour loss to your carpet if not neutralised by a professional carpet cleaner. These permanent stains don’t happen overnight but over an extended period and will eventually require carpet dyeing.

The odour from urine is caused by the uric salts that are left within the carpet pile and deep within the underlay. To break down these salts’ enzymes are used to saturate the carpet and underlay, after a dwell period a special carpet cleaning tool is used to extract the urine from deep in the underlay and carpet.
